Hello, I'm Sophie
Project manager. Parent. Expat based in Berlin, Germany.
A few years ago, I relocated here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually evolved into a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Germany wasn’t part of the long-term plan. Like many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and rapidly grew into something far bigger.
The initial months were intense — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than they ought to be.
The Transition Phase
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of on-the-job learning. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt stable.
Why I Created UrbanMeadowClue
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or surface-level tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in Germany.
What This Site Does (And Doesn't)
This site is:
- Practical insights from living in Germany
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated when meaningful changes occur
This site isn't:
- A resource for tourism authorities
- A sponsored review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Germany continues, and so does the learning process. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep recording what we find.
If you have questions about family life in Berlin or anywhere in Germany, don't hesitate to get in touch.
Cheers,
Sophie
